Implementing Cisco Multicast
This lab bundle contains all the exercises associated with the Implementing Cisco Multicast (MCAST) course. The lab exercises cover all aspects of basic IP multicast configuration and troubleshooting including:
- Configuration of Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) and PIM Dense mode
- Monitoring and debugging IGMP and multicast states in Cisco routers
- Detailed monitoring and debugging of PIM Dense mode
- Configuration and monitoring of PIM Sparse mode with static RP
- Detailed monitoring and debugging of PIM Sparse mode
- Configuration and debugging of PIM Sparse-Dense mode
- Filtering of IGMP reports and monitoring sparse and dense mode groups simultaneously
Content
This set of lab exercises contains the following exercises:
- IGMP Concepts and PIM Dense Mode Protocol Basics
- PIM Dense Mode Protocol Mechanics and Timers
- PIM Sparse Mode Protocol Basics
- PIM Sparse Mode Protocol Mechanics and Timers
- PIM Sparse-dense Mode and Manual RP Configuration
Objectives
Upon finishing this set of exercises, you will be able to:
Explain the method of reporting and tracking IP multicast group membership
Importance
This lab bundle is mandatory for students attending the Implementing Cisco Multicast (MCAST) training, as it provides the only means of getting the desired hand-on skills in basic IP multicast configuration and troubleshooting on Cisco IOS routers. The bundle is also highly recommended to students who have attended the MCAST course in the past and would like to improve or refresh their configuration or troubleshooting skills. The lab bundle supports both the CCIE Routing and Switching as well as the CCIE Service Provider certifications.
Target Audience
The lab exercises are targeted at t pre- and post-sales technical support engineers who have to design, deploy and manage IP multicast in a simple intra-domain routed environment.
Prerequisite Knowledge
To successfully complete this IP Multicast set of exercises, you need in-depth knowledge of IP multicast protocols such as IGMP, PIM Dense mode and PIM Sparse mode. This knowledge is best gained by attending the Implementing Cisco Multicast (MCAST)course. Familiarity with internal routing protocols and Cisco IOS is required as well. The prerequisite knowledge is best gained by attending the Building Scalable Cisco Internetworks (BSCI) course.
