Advanced Routing and Switching for Field Engineers v2.0

This set of lab exercises (lab bundle) contains all the exercises associated with the Advanced Routing and Switching for Field Engineers (ARSFE) v2.0 course.

The bundle contains five lab exercises. In the first lab exercise you will configure and monitor SSH. The second lab exercise allows you to examine the NetFlow statistics taken from Cisco routers and Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switch. In the third and fourth exercises you will deploy several Layer 2 and Layer 3 high availability features. You will configure Rapid STP to prevent Layer-2 loops, an EtherChannel between the switches and Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) on two gateway routers. In the last exercise you will configure an MPLS infrastructure in the core backbone and provide basic MPLS VPN connectivity for two customers.

This set of lab exercises contains the following exercises:

Objectives

Upon finishing this set of exercises, you will be able to:
Configure and monitor SSHv2

  • Enable and explore NetFlow on the Cisco routers and Cisco Catalyst 6500 Series switches
  • Configure and monitor EtherChannel
  • Optimize STP by using RSTP
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot HSRP
  • Enhance the HSRP operation by tuning HSRP parameters
  • Configure basic MPLS in the network
  • Configure Multiprotocol BGP to establish routing between the PE routers
  • Configure the Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) instances necessary to support your customer and establish your customer Routing Information Protocol (RIP) routing using a simple VPN

Importance

This lab bundle is highly recommended to all students that will deploy advances features such as SSH, Netflow, EtherChannel, RSTP, HSRP and MPLS VPN in the networks and will ensure scalability, security and high performance for their solutions. The lab bundle is also recommended to students who have attended the ARSFE 2.0 course in the past and would like to improve or refresh their configuration and troubleshooting skills.

Target Audience

The course is targeted at pre- and mainly post-sales technical support engineers who have to design and implement secure, scalable and efficient remote access network solutions.

Prerequisite Knowledge

To successfully complete this set of exercises, you need to possess solid knowledge in SSH, STP, HSRP, BGP and MPLS VPN mechanisms. This knowledge is best gained by attending the ARSFE 2.0 course.
